This is the first part of two proactive projects created for Converse. I have always wanted to create an illustration-based design for clothing, based on a scratch-board/wood-etch technique. Starting with a few sketches, the process lead to an almost final ink illustration, which was scanned and redrawn as a full vector skull design. From here, it could be easily edited, changing colours, adding outlines and shading, as well as applying an old printed effect. This design was then used in different ways: on it's own, combined with the Converse logo, or step-and-repeated as a pattern. A few application ideas can also be seen below.
